Meet Grace, Our FP Design Services Project Manager

Meet Grace Adams, our new FP Design Services Project Manager. Grace is bringing her many talents to the Design Services Team. From Alabama to Charleston, her journey is as inspiring as her designs. Dive into our conversation with Grace and discover where she got her start and how she weaves her experiences into every space she touches.

What is your background (school, the start of your career, etc)?

Grace: Hailing from Mobile, Alabama, I laid the foundations for my career in interior design by earning my bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama. My professional path took off at Blackberry Farm Design, where a rigorously fast-paced environment honed my skills in efficiency and attention to detail. Those formative four years of working on high-end residential and hospitality spaces were crucial in preparing me for the challenges of running my eponymous firm, Grace Griffith Design, back in Mobile. There, I embraced a diversity of projects, from new residential constructions to the revamping of a beloved local eatery.

What has been the most interesting aspect of working at Fritz Porter?

Grace: Ever since my days at Blackberry, Fritz Porter has captivated me with its exquisite textile collection. Joining the Fritz Porter team felt like stepping into a treasure trove of fabrics that not only stun visually but also carry the profound stories of the vendors who crafted them. These textiles offer a wealth of possibilities for any design scheme, providing an essential variety of patterns that are meticulously crafted.

At Fritz Porter, I'm enveloped in creativity, surrounded by a team of gifted artisans and like-minded designers. The creative exchange here is constant, sparking new ideas and reinforcing my passion for design. Curating pieces that bridge history and modernity is an immensely rewarding aspect of my job.

Fritz Porter is located in Charleston; how does the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Charleston influence your design approach?

Grace: Charleston is a designer's paradise; its historical allure and distinctive architecture endlessly inspire me. Although I've been a Charleston resident for merely 2.5 months, its influence on my design approach is profound. My ethos is to marry my clients' preferences with my experiences, with Charleston’s storied backdrop offering a fresh canvas for my creations.

The city's trademark Single Houses, opulent mansions, and their elegant details spotlight craftsmanship's timeless appeal—elements I strive to embed in my work. Charleston is not just a place of visual inspiration; it's a hub of cultural vibrancy that my husband, Chris, had long cherished and that I now resonate with deeply.

In Charleston, the historical color schemes, like the pastels of Rainbow Row, blend with contemporary touches in my designs, sculpting interiors that are both classic and current. The city's cultural tapestry propels me to design inviting and lasting spaces that encapsulate Charleston's enchantment and the finesse of modern life.
