We’re delighted to welcome Madison Alvarez to the Fritz Porter team. With a background in textile design and a deep curiosity for the history and craftsmanship behind fabrics, Madison brings a thoughtful perspective to the showroom. Her work is rooted in an appreciation for both the technical construction of textiles and the cultural stories they carry, something that aligns seamlessly with the world we aim to create at Fritz Porter.
We sat down with Madison to learn more about her background, inspirations, and what she’s looking forward to exploring. Take a look:
What is your background (school, the start of your career, etc)?
M: My journey into textiles started at the Savannah College of Art and Design where I earned my degree in Textile Design (Fibers, MFA) in 2024. During my time there I immersed myself in various methods including weaving and screen printing as well as digital surface design. My real passion lies in the history and construction of a fabric. I have always been fascinated by how traditional techniques have evolved into the modern luxury textiles we see today. My early career included a product development internship at Loloi Rugs where I designed rugs and wall art as well as pillows. This experience allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of design and how specific fiber choices and constructions dictate the longevity and beauty of a piece.
What inspired you to pursue a career in the interiors/textile world?
M: I am inspired by the history of textiles and the deep cultural stories they carry. I have always been fascinated by where a fabric originates and how different colorways and combinations can completely shift the energy of a room. Beyond just the history I love learning about the specific techniques designers use to bring their visions to life. Understanding those technical aspects and the craftsmanship behind each piece makes a textile feel even more unique and it is those small details that make a space feel truly special. For me the interior world is the perfect place to explore how these thoughtful designs and historical roots come together to create an elevated home.

What has been the most interesting aspect of working at Fritz Porter, what brought you here?
M: What brought me to Fritz Porter was the opportunity to be immersed in a showroom that prioritizes original design and exceptional craftsmanship. The most interesting aspect of working here is gaining insight into how interior designers think and seeing how they curate a room using the materials we carry. I love that I am surrounded by textiles all day that are so rich in history and technical detail. It is incredibly rewarding to work with designs that feel one of a kind because each designer and line has their own unique story and perspective. Being able to see how those individual histories and techniques come together to make a space feel more special is exactly what I was looking for in this role.
Fritz Porter is located in Charleston, how does the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Charleston influence you?
M: Since I recently moved to Charleston I am finding inspiration in the eclectic mix of history and design found throughout the city. The architectural heritage and the unique atmosphere of the Lowcountry provide a beautiful backdrop that influences my eye for color and texture. I am especially drawn to the local palette like the deep greens and soft plaster tones which show how historic beauty can still feel fresh and current. This city has such a unique character that encourages me to appreciate the stories and craftsmanship that make every space here feel so special.
Looking forward, what are some interior design trends you are excited to explore with Fritz Porter?
M: Looking forward I am excited to see more traditional patterns re-imagined in fresh and unexpected colorways. I love the shift toward spaces that feel collected and unique rather than just following a single trend. I am especially interested in how rich textures can be layered to make a room feel grounded and personal. It will be great to see how designers continue to use historical stories to create homes that feel both timeless and modern.
Madisen’s perspective is a natural extension of what we value at Fritz Porter—a deep respect for craftsmanship, a love of layered interiors, and an appreciation for the stories behind every textile. We’re so excited to have her as part of the team and look forward to seeing the impact she brings to the showroom.
