How long have you been designing textiles?

I went to RISD to study textiles, graduated in 2007, and have been working in the industry ever since. I have been designing my own line since 2013.

What inspired your newest collection/technique with bleaching?

The newest designs were generated through a silkscreen process called discharge printing. I designed the floral and geo patterns and then silkscreen printed them with eco-friendly bleach onto a dyed ground cloth, thus removing pigment from the ground cloth and creating a beautiful texture in the design. That design is then digitally printed to ensure quality and consistency. I love the look of worn antique textiles, and in using the bleach technique I’m able to achieve that look in a brand new fabric.

Where did you grow up?

I’m originally from Greenville, SC but my family has lived in Charleston for 13 years.

Who would be your ideal dinner party guest?

I love having dinner parties! I have no ideal guest per se; I just love bringing people together from different circles and having lively conversation with plenty of red wine.

Who is someone or something that you consider inspiring?

I am constantly inspired by architecture and reference it in my designs often. I love living in the Lowcountry because the architecture in Savannah and Charleston is so unique and inspires me daily.

What is typically in your refrigerator?

During watermelon season there’s always a fresh supply of cut watermelon waiting to be devoured.

If you could live in a certain period of time, when would it be?

I love Jane Austen novels and fantasize about what life would be like in the Georgian Era. However, being that I’m a woman (with ambitious career goals) I think I’m lucky to be living in the 21st century.

What are five things you can't live without?

Supportive friends and family, drawing/painting supplies, air conditioning, weekends, and avocados.

Tell me something people would be surprised to learn about you.

I am obsessed with the TV show Survivor and would totally compete if given the opportunity.

What is your favorite place to eat/visit/drink/shop in Charleston?

I just popped into Morgan Kylee for the first time during my last visit to Charleston and have decided it’s my new favorite store on King Street!
