ABOUT THE DESIGNER

AMELIA HANDEGAN

A quiet understated approach, coupled with an uncanny sense of style, Amelia Handegan has for over 30 years, had the privilege to restore and furnish many of the Lowcountry’s great historic homes. In addition to her historic commissions, her vision and talents have informed a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial projects throughout the country and abroad.

A past recipient of House Beautiful’s “Showhouse” Award, she was named one of the magazine’s “100 Best Designer’s in America” and was recognized in the Robb Report’s 2007 Guide to the World’s Top 40 Interior Designers. Her work is frequently published in Veranda, Architectural Digest, British House and

Gardens, and in numerous books on interiors. She is currently working with Rizzoli on her own book of rooms, due for publication this fall.

Amelia describes her approach to design as intuitive, and defines her signature style as “one foot in the past and one foot in the future”. Most recognized for her painterly sensibilities, deft and extraordinary use of color, comfortable elegance, and quiet drama. Amelia’s work reflects her innate ability to seamlessly bring together a balanced mix of styles, periods, and ethnic origins.

Her acute sensitivity to texture and light evoke an aura to her interior landscapes – the outcome unique, layered, and eminently livable.

Understanding the challenge of locating unique objects and furnishings, Amelia, Inc. was created tolocate the exceptional in decorative antiques, vintage furnishings, textiles, and lighting. The custom upholstery line is neither traditional nor contemporary, but instead is scaled for comfort and possesses a timeless aesthetic that works in any home.
