PEOPLE ASK ALL THE TIME, "WHAT IS FRITZ PORTER?"
And the answer is simple: it is many things.
It is a carefully curated antique center, representing 15 different dealers with styles ranging from flea market chic to museum quality classics.
It is an art gallery where one can find original pieces by contemporary artists ranging in style from pastoral impressionism to surreal and abstract.
It is a fabric and furniture showroom that offers a stellar selection of boutique lines that are not found anywhere else in the Southeast.
It is a perfect place to fine those one-of-a-kind gifts be it a bauble, a bottle opener, or a book.
There is something for everyone…. come see for yourself!
Designer Sarah-Hamlin Hastings discovered a void in the Charleston market when she moved back to her hometown several years ago. There were no interesting interior design sources.
While there are a plethora of antique shops, junk malls, large furniture stores, and art galleries, yet no place where one could walk in and the work was done for you: Antique dealers who were hand-picked for their varying aesthetic, art dealers who represent a wide range of genres, and small, boutique fabric, wallpaper and lighting lines that cannot be found anywhere near Charleston.
Serendipity would have it that this fabulous old cigar factory had just begun a massive, yet thoughtful renovation. It offered not only a a fantastic space for such a showroom, but a great location and plenty of parking.
So an idea turned into reality and the Fritz Porter Design Collective was born...
WHY THE NAME?
Meet Fritz Janschka and Porter Aichele.
The maternal aunt and uncle, of owner Sarah Hamlin Hastings. They are two of the most progressive, intelligent, creative people you would ever hope to meet. They are the inspiration and namesake of this endeavor, the Fritz Porter Design Collective… A unique retail concept that bridges the gap between the beautiful traditions and history of Charleston, and provocative, sophisticated design.
We hope this collective will become even half as intriguing and inspirational as they are.
We are a retail store open to the public, yet we are also considered a showroom for fabric and furniture…which means:
--We protect all trade pricing for our fabric, furniture and lighting lines.
--With the proper paperwork, we offer a flat trade discount on all antique and one-of-a-kind pieces.
—We facilitate and handle all custom orders in house.
—Approvals are considered on a per-item basis.
—All sales are final.
